This digital installation was made by Halle Berger during the COVID-19 quarantine. Halle described her process for creating the installation by saying, “I created a digital rendering of sea level rise in downtown Mystic, CT using an image of the whale statue. The picture was taken during the COVID-19 pandemic, which is why the whale has a face mask. I was able to find the height of the standing ashtray next to the whale in order to make accurate measurements for the sea level heights using ImageJ.” Halle is an intern at Future Frogmen.
Hosted by Future Frogmen, Rising Waters offered two workshops for United Nations World Oceans Day 2020. In the first workshop, instructions for how to find sea level rise predictions using data tools, and how to make an installation, were shown. In the second workshop, Halle presented her installation and talked about the process that she used to create the piece. We then delved deeper into the Rising Waters project and how to make installations. Instructions to make your own digital installation are linked here.
