Art for climate education and adaptation
Rising Waters began as Rising Tides in the summer of 2013, at the group show “OccupyING the Present” (curated by Elizabeth Nichelman) at the East Boston Shipyard and Marina. When our founder, Susan Israel, walked the site to develop an installation concept, she kept trying to visualize where the water would be in the future, and Rising Waters was born. Friends helped Susan paint this first installation which marks, in one foot increments, the 3’-6’ sea level of sea level rise predicted on this site by 2100 (without storm surge). Susan also created Message-in-a-Bottle here as a call-and-response piece to engage with visitors, and hosted community workshops at HarborArts and Bartlett Yards.
